CNS Annual Fishing Trip

October 15, 2011

Posted In: Company Events By admin

This year’s fishing tournament in Steinhatchee was a success with many different species of fish caught.  It was tough fishing with the winds blowing and the seas disturbed, but the captains and crew members made the most out of it.  The weekend started out with a dinner at Roy’s and a few too many beers for some of the fisherman that Friday night.

Saturday morning came and three of the boats headed offshore while the bulk of the fleet stayed inshore.  The fishing was slow all around with a front that cleared just days before the tournament.  Captain Chris and I headed to the south to try a new spot that’s now called the Mark spot.  Mark caught a nice little Cobia, Amberjack, and a doormat Flounder there.  That flounder won Mark the coolest fish in the sea award.  My crew and I headed out to 50’ to fish some live bottom where we caught 12 or so Red Grouper, a bunch of Grunts, and a few Sea Bass.  Chris Edwards caught a nice 22’ Red Grouper that took first place in the offshore category.   Jamie had her way with the Grunts, catching at least a dozen or so.  Gary and John’s crew caught their share of Grunts, Sea Bass, and a few small Red Grouper offshore.  They didn’t make the weigh in, but did make it back to the dock safely.

The inshore bite consisted of Trout, Sea Bass (everyone caught a Sea Bass), Lady Fish, and Spanish Mackerel.  Dakota won the inshore category with a nice 18” trout that weighed in at 1.7 lbs, just beating out Bob’s Trout that was the same weight but only 17”.

Hey Dakota, a Lizard fish is not edible by the way.

Bob’s team landed over 16 different species of fish caught in one day.  Calvin and his crew came back with a nice Spanish Mackerel that Jimmy caught and some Trout.  Captain James caught some keeper Trout and other assorted inshore fish.  Josh caught a couple of Puffer Fish and a few other fish that we had to look up their names, along with some Trout and Mackerel.  Scotty and Alan caught some Trout that didn’t make the scales due to their shortness.  Thank you all for fishing with us and making it another fun day on the water.

Timmy Fernandez Memorial Golf Classic

September 24, 2011

Posted In: Company Events By admin

In honor of late co-worker and friend, Timmy, CNS put together the Timothy Fernandez Memorial Golf Tournament. This was held at Ironwood on Saturday September 24th.  We had a great turnout, with ten teams competing in a best ball format.  Festivities kicked off at 9am with Bill Iwinski giving the golfers the run down of how the competition would operate and the longest drive and closet-to-the-pin money holes.
The winners were a team from Shands including Chris Dorval, Rick MacElderry, Bob McKey and Tom Whitney.
Second place went to the Fernandez team including Kermit Gray, Mike and Andy Fernandez and Eric.
Third place featured Jason Evans, Scott Tillman, Justin Berkman and John Madey.
Longest drives went to Jeff Ashton and Mike McGraw, who, in the words of his brother Johnny, “is an estimator, not a scorekeeper.”
Big winner of the day was Kermit Gray who won both of the closet-to-the-pin holes and was a member of the second place team.
The day ended with lunch, provided by Hills BBQ, and awards and door prizes, compliments of Graybar Electric.  In attendance were people from Shands hospital, Graybar Electric, Vintage Electric, Communications Supply Corporation, Cabling Technologies Inc., and the University of Florida.  Stories were told of memories past, and new memories were made.  Pictures are posted in the CNS website gallery and many will find their way onto the office walls in the next couple of weeks alongside the plaque with the winner’s names.

This was a great event and we look forward to making it an annual event.  Special thanks to all of our sponsors.  Also, thanks go out to the CNS employees who helped put it together, Alan and Steve for spreading the word, Bob and Jason for putting together the rules, collecting money and ironing out the details, Lori for coordinating the food and everyone at Ironwood for making the event run smoothly.

Thanks again to everyone who participated, sponsored or just turned out for the fun.  We cannot wait to do it again next year and hope for an even bigger and better turnout.  Timmy may be missed, but he will not be forgotten.
